Folie a Deux has blossomed since coming under the Trinchero family umbrella in 2004. Under Bob Trinchero, the proprietor of several renowned California wineries, the quality at Folie a Deux has skyrocketed. Alexander Valley is one of the premier regions in all of California for Cabernet Sauvignon, lead by giants like Jordan, Silver Oak, Simi, Stonestreet and others. 2016 was a phenomenal vintage across California. Although Cabernet Sauvignon is typically a late-ripening variety, warmer-than-average temperatures in spring and early summer prompted an early harvest. The fruit from this vintage yielded rich fruit flavors and soft tannins. This Cab underwent a maceration period of 10 to 16 days which brought rich color, medium body, balanced mouthfeel and excellent aging potential. The wine was aged for 22 months in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak barrels, 27% new.?
There are fresh fruit aromas of apple, pear, pineapple, and vanilla mixed with floral notes and slight oak in the glass. The 2017 is rich and full bodied with slight citrus notes along with fresh fruit flavors of pear, apple, tropical fruits and peaches. The Viognier adds a slight floral component and contributes to the rich mouth-feel. This vintage is well balanced and has a very long finish. If you are looking for classic California Chardonnay, then this is the wine to order by the case!
