Maison Matisco?s name pays tribute to its historical roots, as the city of M?con was called ?Matisco? in the 2nd century BC and functioned as an active river port where boats travelled to and from Rome carrying amphorae of wine. Today, owners, winemakers and brothers, Richard and St?phane Martin carry on the family business that their father, Maurice, started 50 years ago, founding the family estate, Domaine de la Croix Senaillet in 1969. The renowned Domaine de la Croix Senaillet consists of 60 parcels of vines centered in the hills of the village of Davay? in the heart of the M?con. In 1992 Richard and St?phane took over the business bringing new ideas to the forefront but continuing their father?s work, maintaining the same legacy of passion for Burgundy and Chardonnay that the family has always encompassed. The estate has been certified organic ?Agriculture Biologique?, since 2005.
VINEYARDS: The organically grown Chardonnay grapes for Saint-V?ran are harvested from two sites in the villages of Davay? (mostly) and Priss?. Terroir consists primarily of calcareous soils from the Jurassic era, with limestone rocks strewn through the vineyards and some ochre clays. The result is a wine of minerality and distinction. Grapes for Maison Matisco?s wines stem from both their own plots and the vineyards of neighboring growers who share the same unwavering values of sustainable agriculture.
