Bodegas Covila was founded in 1989 by sixty vineyard owners from Lapuebla de Labarca in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. The focus on crafting fresh, fruity, structured wines with deep color, balanced acidity and sweet tannins that age gracefully.
Covila produces mostly good-quality affordable Rioja wines, but with this bottling the winery has stepped it up a notch. Aromas of raisin, graphite, prune, vanilla and coconut are ripe and oaky. A chunky, blocky, ripe palate holds blackberry and cassis flavors that come with notes of dried herbs. Chewy tannins and peppery spice push a bold finish. Drink through 2022.?MICHAEL SCHACHNER
