Rust en Vrede was the first Stellenbosch private winery in South Africa to specialize in the exclusive production of red wines. In the early 1980s, it also became the first producer in South Africa to make a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot, a wine now known as Rust en Vrede Estate.
